Autumn Dynasty Advance Strategy

Here are some strategic and tactical tips, by ohmypapa on the AutumnDynasty.com forums:

Quote:
I have been playing this and owning online players lol, except my only loss on my first game.

Probably because of my experience with computer RTS games.

Basically my strategy:
Start off by building Swordsmen, and Horsemen.
If on maps where there are many forests/camp is close, build Archers instead of Swordsmen.
Build 3 farms and 1 camp, then proceed with 2 more farms, then build according to situation
Research Econs 1 and 2 asap. You dont need Econs 3, because it gives farm alot more value, but by then, you should already have more than enough farms to support.
Then research the Horse 1.
Horse 1 is by far the best because of Fire ability.
And later on, Horse 2 gives Charge, another ridiculously overpowered ability.

Basically Horsemen are the best units, most mobility, can reach far away places to capture quickly. Can retreat easily.

Worse unit is Swordsmen, because they pretty much suck. And their researched abilities are nothing good, avalanche is great damage, but too situational to use effectively.
However, having 1 early on for building stuff and tanking is great.

Archers are awesome, because once you researched Horse 1, you get Arrow Storm, which when coupled with Fire is ridiculously powerful.
I am able to use 2 units to defend and stall while my economy build up.

Pikemen provides the best defense and when coupled with Archers can stall very effectively, even without research.

Basically, 1 pikemen and 2 archers units can stall 4-5 units for a very long time.

Towers are awesome too, and on some maps, they literally mean victory if you get down the first tower controlling the middle ground.

Catapults are the most effective counter to tower, without catapult, dont bother attacking towers, you risk losing a lot of units and time doing so.

Other Tips:
Always scout with your first horsemen, use it to interrupt buildings and harass.
You dont necessarily have to kill anything with it. Just interrupt buildings.
Your starting 3 or 4 units are extremely important and costly. Try to save them and do not lose them.
Units can heal at forts, slowly, but worth it.

How to build:
Now most of the maps have multiple ways to expand and multiple ways to attack.
So how do you build?
Aside from the starting build, you must recognise 2 other important buildings.
1) Tower, when to build these?
The answer is simple, wherever enemy will go through or be forced to go through.
Remember that 1 Tower is the equivalent of 2 Archer units with more range.
However, they cannot move, which means they are useless if they have nothing to shoot at.
You build these at the front line or guarding an important walkway.
Do not spam these, because Catapults can make quick work of them and they are expensive.

2) Fort, where to build these?
Typically, you do not need to build Towers beside Forts, because Fort can produce units to defend anyway.
You build Forts at places you intend to make a second army with.
By attacking at 2 or 3 places at once, you can easily overwhelm your opponent.

Lastly, ALWAYS keep expanding. ALWAYS.
For example, if you see 3 units attacking your farm, and your only unit available is an archer, dont defend it.
Farm takes time to destroy, and they are cheap anyway, defend at the next farm/building behind that farm.
You only need to buy time to assemble a force to defend. Let your economy overpower him.
And here's a list of abilities (aka "strategems") from Knightbeard, who I believe is one of the devs:
Quote:
By pairing any two abilities together, 2 units is more than enough to take down multiple units given the right time and terrain positioning.

So here is a brief summary of the current 10 abilities we have in the game.

< Flare > opens up the fog of war to reveal enemies actions.
< Bombard > area being bombarded takes constant massive damage through time while remain channeling.

< Fire > standing on a fire takes damage through time. spread wildly on forest.
< Charge > any unit caught in the path of charge takes damage and gets knock back, splashing damage to other units behind the knocked back unit.

< Arrowstorm > super slow and damage any units caught in the radius while remain channeling. If move after casting, will drop the channeling of damage but super slow still remains on enemies.
< Deploy > entrench to a spot with increase range and reduced angle of fire. Further increases range on dunes and steppes.

< Ambush > entrench to a spot while becoming invisible and set up a radius where enemies are slowed and take damage over time.
< Shield > pikeman take little damage from arrows but greatly reduced own movement speed.

< Avalanche > cast on an area near a mountain where enemies take constant damage over time.
< Smoke > cast on an area where friendly units within the smoke radius
take little damage from arrows.

So by combining any two abilities, you can get devastating effects over multiple enemy units.

So for example, < Arrowstorm > and < Fire > can be cast to multiple enemy units in a forest, pinning them down to take burning damage.

*Update: Here's my own. Fiddling for fun on Hard mode at last stage. Computer actually build Forts around you and started sending troops followed by Catapults. I almost fell off my chair when Computer actually can use Horsemen to set Fire on my troops and Towers/Buildings without Forest. I will never figure that out!

I watched quite a number of replays and I realized the Pikemen's (Ambush) seemed to be key in winning games. When the ambush is set, the only way to counter it is to use Catapult's (Flare/Bombard) which likely you will not build it in early stages, or triggering it with Pikemen and using Archers (Deploy). Archers alone may be caught in the Pikemen's (Ambush) and be killed. Another not so effective way is the Swordsmen (Smoke) as it still suffers high damage before reaching the Pikemen (Ambush) although they are not slowed in the Smoke. Besides, Swordsmen numbers are lower than Pikemen and I almost always escort my Pikemen with Archers and Horsemen.

My assault force usually consists of 2 types of units each and a Catapult. I do not usually deploy 2 Catapults as they will usually be hunted down at all cost. They are also too slow to retreat from the battle.

Autumn Dynasty Strategy

Finally, I read so many reviews and confirmed this is a good game. Then, I bought this game at a discount during Christmas. I started to play and dam it was hard. I will give you the Autumn Dynasty Strategy from Autumn Dynasty Facebook, but I doubt it will help you much. Mind you, I was a hardcore Dune 2, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Starcraft, Warcraft TFT player and I thought this game will be a walk in the park.

The Basics at a glance (scissors/paper/stone):

  • Horsemen > Archers > Swordsmen > Pikemen > Horsemen
  • Catapults/Swordsmen > Towers/Buildings

Some spells:

  • Horsemen (Fire, Charge)
  • Swordsmen (Avalanche, Smoke)
  • Pikemen (Ambush, Shield)
  • Archers (Arrowstorm, Deploy)
  • Catapults (Flare, Bombard)

Avalon Wars Update

There has been a recent server merge between Bootes and Capricornus. That must have been the biggest update since the iFree hibernation. iFree did it in style with the colonies and NPC being wiped out of the map for quite a number of days before it was randomly generated again. However, fewer 2 star colonies and vulture-exposed 10 star guards. Well, at least any update was better than no update.

The merge with Capricornus was positive considering that server was more active. New top gears like Exoskeleton Burgonet (lvl 45 NDA headset), QK37 Ermine (lvl 45 NDA weapon), Osmium Breastplate (lvl 45 NDA armor) and Exclusive Laser AMP S0 [Epic] started appearing. I will capture some screenshots to publish here later. Capricornus also had more lvl 39 and 40 players. Also the no sub and no knights rules for Bootes was being tested.

I was already being attacked or knight farmed so more life might be a good thing...

iPhone 6 Plus Bend it like Beckham

I was reading the top 25 tweets for iPhone 6 Bendgate problem and had a hilarious good time laughing at how they poked fun of the issue. I will share with you in my next few posts.

On a serious note, 9to5mac had a very comprehensive coverage on the iPhone 6 Bendgate issue.

Also an objective coverage by Forbes.

In summary, in the essence of time, I conclude the bending problem is real at the weakest point near the lower volume button especially if you put it in your pocket, although I have not tested myself yet (Any sponsors? He he... I usually walk the talk & I am not a body-builder). Apple has to address this issue either by redesigning their expensive product or replacing them free-of-charge FOC for consumers who have damaged them. Either that, you have to buy a casing to protect your priced possession.

With the new iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus launch, I have updated my blog's banner.

I will like to cover the story of the iPhone 6 Plus - Bend it like Beckham.

This is of utmost importance to you and me, if you really want to buy an iPhone 6 Plus.

Evernote is NOT Forever

Oh my goodness. I lost my wife's data after changing her Android smartphone (not so smart after all) and I thought Evernote was forever (read all reviews before I downloaded and used it). This pretty much sums it up Please Help, I appear to have lost all 3 weeks of my notes!.

After changing her smartphone, I smirked and told myself, hey, I would not have the problem of Samsung Note 2 SNote previously where the Notes are stored locally. I happily downloaded Evernote and login with her account and like magic the Notes returned. I saw them myself before handing over the fully configured smartphone with the micro SD card backup the old smartphone's photos, plus the Google contacts I synced before changing the smartphone (see, so smart). The new smartphone was fully functional. Then, the next week, she came over with dismay telling me that all her Notes are gone!

Being the IT geek, I tried to act cool and told her not to worry. I tried to find or restore but to no avail. I Googled up further and found that it needs to be subscribed before you can read Notes offline with the smartphone or store them offline. All hope was lost and my heart sank ranting that Evernote is NOT Forever after all and I was not happily ever after.

The next day, I tried to login to the PC Chrome for one last attempt before I switched to ColorNote (good reviews and offline mode and able to save to micro SD card) and found there were 2 trash in the Evernote website after login with her account. I quickly restored them and copied the data out. So my question was I believed my wife was not IT savvy enough to delete the Notes. The deletion likely would have been caused by resetting the password and/or changing of the smartphone.

So in short, use the PC browser to login in to Evernote website to check for deleted Notes in the trash and hopefully, you can restore them.

If you ever ever use Evernote, just remember, it may just not be Forever.

2048 Strategy

2048 strategy - Well, I could not beat it initially until I read someone else's 2048 strategy. But their strategy was really confusing. Worse, everyone copied and pasted the same "confusing" guide.

But, once I saw this picture, it was all crystal clear.

I beat it a couple of times on my first night until I wanted to go higher than 2048, which I did 4096. Then the nausea feeling started to set in due to insufficient sleep. Moreover, it was repetitive. I stopped altogether after that.

3 simple rules:
  1. Focus on bottom left corner
  2. Always fill up the bottom row, left to right
  3. Merge the bottom row numbers without moving the corner stone. In the above case, it's sliding left.

Avalon Wars Bounty, Bootes - The Legion vs Empire 20140421

The 2nd challenge after Nascimur. The Legion vs Empire 16 vs 71. Finally, 4-0. Empire ended strongly. If it was a full turnout, it would be a nail-biting finish.

Avalon Wars Bounty, Bootes - The Legion vs Nascimur 20140421

The first of the 2 Bounty Battle challenges.
The Legion vs Nascimur 16 vs 65. The Legion max capacity down to 16. Finally 7-0.

Avalon Wars Bounty at Bootes - The Legion vs Empire

Outnumbered 20 to 63. Final 6 to 0. The Legion fielded their best players. Lucky win as many Empire members did not join. Enjoy.

Blog Clones

Well, I found a blog iPhone Sake that copied our blog posts wholesale. This is really unethical and unfair to the originator of the blog. We will be reporting this to Blogger to delete their copied posts.

We do not mind if you take our post, add your personal opinions or comments such that it adds value to your audience. But blatant copying is a no-brainer.

Of course we can beat them by producing more original content and using javascripts to prevent the copying of images.

This will require a bit of time and programming from our side.

However, this has to be done.

Plants vs Zombies 2 - Wild West Day 18

Well, perhaps it will help someone to cross this stage. It seems that all those ridiculous stages are cleared using the least obvious but easiest methods. The tactical spikeweed and walnut. 2 lightning rod for insurance but read the best post that it wasn't needed.

iPad Mini Retina

Finally, I made the transition to switch from iPad 2 to iPad Mini Retina (WiFi + Cellular).

One of the main reasons was my "old" iPad 2 (without Retina) has no wireless hotspot! I have Googled the Internet and found out that it's the hardware and not the IOS, even with the latest IOS. I have also confirmed with all the Apple retailers. My VPN tethering with Samsung Note 2 has somehow broken with an Android update. I need the hotspot for work. The other reason being the weight.

I'm a Singaporean and I bought mine from Malaysia JB KSL City Mall at Mac City shop. It costed me RM1699 for a 16GB WiFi + Cellular model. Using a 2.5 conversion rate, it costed me about S$680. That's about S$50 savings if bought from Singapore originally costing S$728. The accessories such as iPad Mini Retina smart cover and anti-glare screen protector, you can get from either KSL City Mall itself or Holiday Inn Plaza if you don't mind to walk a few steps.

First thing I noticed is weight. The lead weight has reduced drastically. Not that it was heavy. Just that my wife was complaining carrying it around during holidays to snap photos.

WiFi + Cellular
iPad 2 - 613 g (1.35 pounds)
iPad Air - 478 g (1.05 pounds)
iPad Mini Retina - 341 g (0.75 pound)
iPad Mini - 312 g (0.69 pound)

After changing, yes, I confirmed that it was much much lighter carrying it and around.

Surprisingly, the iPad Mini is lighter than Retina. Maybe, iPad Mini's owners should not change :-P

Secondly, I sold or trade-in my iPad 2 to a reseller at Singapore Toa Payoh Central at a reasonably good price. As we have surveyed the shops around there, there was one particular shop (I will provide the address when I go back there again) that I felt that the shop owner vouched to what they have quoted me. My experience with the other shops was that they will quote you after doing a superficial assessment. When you really want to sell them at that price they quoted you when you return, they will undercut you with all sorts of excuses like scratches, dents, looks old, no box blah, blah, blah... This shop is honest and reasonable. In fact, this is the second deal we have done with them. The first, they buy-back my iPhone 3GS (although he did reduce $20 the previous round lah)

Thirdly, I approached them to cut the Micro SIM to Nano SIM which they did it free for me with their SIM card puncher. I asked and yes, it costs to replace your Micro SIM to Nano SIM from the Telco. Another plus point from the shop. Also confirms that my blog post works!

Convert Micro SIM to Nano SIM

Tested and proven to work as 4G if your plan is LTE.

The rest of the features are the same as what I described in iPad Air.

Macworld did a fabulous job of comparing iPad Mini Retina with iPad Mini 2 especially highlighting you the difference for the resolution.

iPad mini Retina review - Review - Macworld UK by Karen Haslam

Extract of the Verdict:
"... While the iPad mini costs slightly more this year than the original iPad mini did at launch, we think the increased cost is a small price to pay for the updated technology...."

I made the switch, have you?

Next post: Changing the default name of the iPad.
