iPhone 5 may use Nano-SIM.
Nano-SIMs will be around 40 percent smaller than the micro SIM cards.
Makes sense as it will give more space on smart phones for other components.
Frankly speaking, when you are the market leader, you can change anything you want & others will have to follow.
E.g. Micro-SIM in the past, Nano-SIM & 4G LTE now
